Extra, Extra: Government Identification and Redirection

Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

  • After Rob Ford threatened that he would call on “Ford Nation” to make sure the McGuinty government doesn’t get re-elected, the term became a local catchphrase this week. Hence—because Torontonians can always be counted on to have fun with Ford-related memes—the above Ford Nation passport by CJ Lee, whose blog you can read here. [hat tip to reader Kelly Sabaliauskas]
  • Our national government’s rebranding this week, from the “Government of Canada” to the “Harper Government,” elicited some negative reactions. But, thankfully, one patriot leapt into action and registered Harpergovernment.ca to help Canadians understand what the Prime Minister’s Office is getting at. [via @carlyrhiannon]
  • Torontoist‘s friend (and hero, and occasional guest contributor) Dave Meslin is pretty excited about Montreal’s Bixi public-bike program expanding to Toronto. But he’s not as excited about us simply adopting Bixi’s name, and so he’s proposing a unique moniker for the program in our city: Trixi.
  • Lastly, a bit more Ford-related goodness: the Red Hot Rob Ford Tumblr! This time, one based on the mayor’s exclamation that “this city is too warm,” in which photos of the mayor are posted with “this something is too something” captions. [via Matt Elliott on Twitter]
