CMW 2011 Profile: !ATTENTION!
From March 9 to 13, Torontoist is covering the crap out of Canadian Music Week, with daily concert and film previews, reviews of the latest action, words with your favourite and soon-to-be-favourite bands, and more.
Toronto’s !ATTENTION! have been described by others as being fronted by Cookie Monster’s brother and by themselves as “beardy and out of shape and we assume it’s a little gross to watch us play live.” These are the reasons you should go see them deliver an adolescence-tinged set of super-fast pop-punk Sunday at Parts and Labour (8 p.m.).
Torontoist: Why should we see you at CMW?
Jonathon Hunter (guitarist): Watching ugly bearded dudes struggle to sing in key is much more entertaining than…uh, maybe you shouldn’t see us…but it’ll be your last chance before we leave for Warped Tour.
What’s your favourite Toronto venue, and why?
Sneaky Dee’s, because it’s the only venue [where] Glenn doesn’t bicker with the sound tech.
What’s your favourite Toronto band, and why?
Junior Battles because Sam [ed. Sutherland, formerly one of us] promised us a pizza if we dropped their name.
What are you excited about seeing/doing and adamant about avoiding at CMW?
Excited about playing a show and hitting up the Janet Jackson after party.
What are the best and worst things about these monster-sized music festivals?
Best aspect of big festivals is giving Torontonians something to get pumped about. Worst aspect is there’s not much to get pumped about.
What’s happening for the band after CMW?
We are releasing a four-song seven-inch on Square Up Records this summer, Pouzzafest in May, and playing as many shows as possible before the proposed apocalypse.
!Attention! will be playing on Sunday night, not Saturday night as we originally reported.
