Sound Tracks: “The Young Ones Slept” by Great Bloomers
Believe it or not, music videos still exist. Sound Tracks trolls the internet to find the best and the worst of local artists’ new singles and the good, bad, or otherwise noteworthy visuals that accompany them.
In a new video from their Speak of Trouble album, Toronto’s Great Bloomers and a group of pals do what it is that us leisure-loving twenty-somethings do on sunny Toronto days: they take to their bikes and hop on the ferry to go to the island.
The black-and-white video (which also has a bit of performance footage spliced in towards the end) was filmed last April (according to some guy who is in the video or something). It probably wasn’t the warmest of days to go hang out on a shoreline, but youth and friendship and music videos know no weather bounds. “The trail mix you see about halfway through was provided by me,” says Torontoist’s video star John Semley. We’ll take his word for it.
The Great Bloomers released the “Small Town Love” seven-inch single in September, and will be touring Ontario with Hamilton’s Huron throughout February. They also play the Garrison this Friday, February 18.
