Power Outages Across the City

headlesshappeningnowtag.jpg    This super-helpful power outage map, care of Toronto Hydro, shows that a number of areas across the city are without electricity. The most serious outages are clustered around Yonge Street and York Mills Road, though the map shows problems stretching as far west as Kipling Avenue and as far east as Brimley Road. Torontoist’s Andre Bovee-Begun reports that less than an hour ago, near Bathurst Street and St. Clair Avenue, a downed eavestrough touched a power line and “blew out” a low-rise apartment building. “A couple tenants told me their TVs were smoking,” he writes. Meanwhile, 680 News issued an alert just after 6 p.m. stating that wind warnings have been issued for most of Southern Ontario, and we can expect gusts of as much as one hundred kilometres per hour. It also notes that “numerous power outages have been reported.” Looks like it could be a long, dark night for some Toronto residents.
