Extra, Extra: Happy Parks and Sad Budgets
Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.
- Toronto has a new citizen group dedicated to making our parks better. The aptly named Park People are now online and planning their first major event—a city-wide park summit—for April.
- City council’s executive committee has been discussing the City’s budget all day, in the aftermath of public consultations and various tweaks since the first draft was released last month. The finalized budget will come to a vote at a special meeting of the full city council that begins on February 23 and is scheduled to last four days. To give you a head start on parsing the debate, here is the budget presentation the executive committee has been looking at [PDF].
- In other City Hall adventures, Rob Ford is distancing himself from brother Doug’s remarks about mayoral veto powers—but still isn’t answering questions about his transit plan. He also laughed off the suggestion that he hasn’t been available to media of late, joking that “I’m always available. It’s pretty hard to hide three hundred pounds of fun.”
- Surprising very few but making it official, TSN formally announced the launch of TSN Radio 1050 today, pleasing many sports fans.
