Extra, Extra: Not Enough Snow, Not Enough Culture

- In classic Canadian fashion, many people have been talking about the weather a lot today. First was the Epic Storm That Wasn’t, and then—spring, maybe! Yes, today is that mythic day on which over-publicized animals see their shadows (or not), and your co-workers make bad Bill Murray jokes. Above, a creature we had not heard of, Herman the Marmot, makes a prediction at the Toronto Zoo. (If you are a purist, you can catch Wiarton Willie’s weather report here.)
- CKLN is going to petition the CRTC to reconsider their decision to close the troubled station.
- The City of Toronto wants to learn more about your views on culture! You know, as long as you can show up at one of two consultations next week, held during business hours and nowhere near where the majority of Toronto’s arts workers work. Oh, and we didn’t find out about this from the City, by the way—at press time, the notice wasn’t on their website.
- On September 24, 2010, a fire seriously damaged a Toronto Community Housing building at 200 Wellesley Street East. Today, some interesting background about the history of fires in that building.
