Extra, Extra: Fun Archival Movies, and a Bad Day for the Biebs

Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

  • Archival discovery of the day: Toronto: Boom Town! is a ten-minute documentary from 1951, all about our great and growing city. It includes everything from gentle mocking of too-quiet Sundays to footage of Regent Heights getting built—the first time around. [via Urban Toronto]
  • William Shatner is hosting the Genies. Many jokes are sure to follow, possibly not all of them made by Shatner himself.
  • The Big Bop like you’ve never seen it before. (Which is to say, totally empty and waiting to become a “condo-targeting offshoot of American housewares store Crate and Barrel.”)
  • Stuff we do not care about at all but which apparently has some people all worked up: Justin Bieber said some dumb things, and William and Kate clearly hate us.
