Extra, Extra: Bitter Cold and Warm Blankets
Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.
- It was really, really cold in Toronto yesterday. If you’ve been cowering in your heated apartment for the past week, watch the video above and see what you’ve been missing.
- Torontoist photographer Christopher Drost was interviewed on CBC Radio’s Ontario Today, where he spoke about his photos of “lake devils,” a cold-weather phenomenon that’s like a giant-sized version of the little home experiment above. We posted a photo of the devils in action, by Torontoist’s Miles Storey, yesterday.
- Arch-Gothamite glossy The New Yorker features a picture of a Hudson’s Bay blanket in its issue this week. The photo illustrates a short story by Alice Munro, who is way Canadian, so clearly somebody at the mag knows his or her Canuck cultural signifiers. Gladwell?
- TTC staff were warned by their union, ATU Local 113, not to use Facebook on the job, because management has been checking the times of wall posts against work schedules, in an attempt to weed out slackers. The warning was posted, well, where else?
