Sound Tracks: “Texico Bitches” by Broken Social Scene

Believe it or not, music videos still exist. Sound Tracks trolls the internet to find the best and the worst of local artists’ new singles and the good, bad, or otherwise noteworthy visuals that accompany them.

If we’re being honest, this video initially elicited a bit of an eye roll over here. Machismo! Oil! Fighting! War! Spectator sport! We get it. We thought we got it? Then things turned intimate. While not overtly graphic, consider this a potential NSFW warning.
“Texico Bitches” is one of the more straight-ahead pop songs from Broken Social Scene’s Forgiveness Rock Record, so why not pair it with a strange and suggestive little video? It starts with two office-boring dudes facing off to fight in a field. A lovely white-leather clad lady sprays (what appears to be) oil on them. A face-painted crowd of few looks on and cheers.
Then some shirts come off and as the cubicle suits get slippery, things get sexy. Truthfully, while there is an underlying hint of tension from the moment these duelling men tenderly rub their oil-soaked heads together, we didn’t see it taking the groping and ground-rolling turn that it takes. When the licking starts, we start to think (hope) it might be chocolate sauce. When the the mystery brown liquid is shamelessly, obviously shown in multiple close-ups spraying more and more, we laugh. When these guys embrace their lust for each other (and, erm, just each other), we’re kind of totally endeared.
Surely Montreal director Thibaut Duverneix intended some next level analysis on all of those controversial social and political issues we mentioned up there, but who knows. It’s a great video. We’ll just go with Youtube commenter casualerror1: “I’m gonna pretend I know exactly what’s going on <3."
