Heroes and Villains 2010: Heroes: Movers

Torontoist is ending the year by naming our Heroes and Villains of 2010—Toronto’s very best and very worst people, places, and things over the past twelve months. This week: Heroes. Today: the movers, those that push Toronto forward, get Toronto going, or bring us closer together.

201012-heroesandvillains-heroes-TTC-C.jpg   The TTC, which kept Toronto moving, and most importantly learned from its mistakes, in a rollercoaster year.
201012-heroesandvillains-heroes-davemeslin-R.jpg   Dave Meslin, the activist Toronto needs now more than ever.
201012-heroesandvillains-heroes-dufferinunderpass-J.jpg   The Dufferin Underpass, making getting from point A to point B in the west end a lot easier—finally.
201012-heroesandvillains-heroes-shawnmicallef-J.jpg   Shawn Micallef, who wrote, tweeted, and fake-tweeted his way through Toronto’s physical and intellectual spaces, and brought us along for the stroll.
201012-heroesandvillains-heroes-humanpoweredornithopter-M.jpg   The Human-Powered Ornithopter Team, who showed us that nothing is impossible—not even flying by flapping our arms.
201012-heroesandvillains-snakesandlattes-M.jpg   Snakes & Lattes, the board game café (of all things) that got us to turn off our laptops, and scootch a little closer to one-another.

We’re revealing our Heroes daily, until December 24; if you’re feeling sinister, our Villains ran last week. So who’s the best of the best and the worst of the worst? From December 27 to 30, you can vote for Toronto’s Superhero and Supervillain of the year.
