- Heritage preservation alert! The National Post is reporting that the historic Hearn generating station is up for demolition, even though the leaseholders who filed the application want to keep the building around. They’ve been asking for a meeting with the new mayor to discuss options for repurposing the building, which has been unused for nearly twenty years, but it seems that nobody’s called them back.
- Restaurant bargain-hunters rejoice, for Winterlicious, the sometimes controversial celebration of gastronomic thrift, is back. Menus are now online, and reservations for special events will be taken starting Monday.
- Today in transportation policy briefs: the Tyee analyzes “war on the car/bike” rhetoric in terms of class divisions; the Guardian revisits the question of licensing cyclists; and a new study adds to the growing body of evidence that people are happier when their communities are more walkable.
