At Sorauren Avenue Park, Halloween’s Not Quite Over Yet

Photographer Finn O’Hara likely didn’t expect to find one last pumpkin stubbornly holding its ground at Sorauren Park, two nights after Halloween and one night after the Sorauren Park Pumpkin Parade made the most of the area’s carefully carved jack-o’-lanterns.
But there it was on Tuesday night, with no other pumpkins in sight: Rob Ford.

O’Hara, whose work appears regularly in places like Toronto Life and whose “I Love Your Fucking Name” project we wrote about in 2008, tells Torontoist that he was on his way home when he spotted a “lone, lit pumpkin at the corner of Sorauren and Wabash….I had a feeling someone was making a statement with their little arrangement, and sure enough, adorned with a spoof Chain of Office, was this scary Rob Ford pumpkin.”
It’s easy to see why locals might be spooked. The park is just inside the border of Ward 14, which voted overwhelmingly for George Smitherman. Scarier still, in the poll that the park is in—34, in Ward 14—fewer than 21% of voters marked Rob Ford off as their choice for mayor.
