Torontoist Takes Two Canadian Online Publishing Awards

Torontoist was delighted and honoured on Wednesday night to win two Canadian Online Publishing Awards at a party hosted at the Gladstone. The Awards, produced by Masthead, “recognize Canada’s best online editorial and design work.” That means us, apparently! In our division, we won Best Article, for 2009’s year-end Heroes and Villains feature, and Best News, for our Melancthon quarry and Banksy coverage, among other news-y things. Further signs of a good night: The Walrus said that we were “very attractive,” and after some tension back in June we have made up with Dogs in Canada.
On top of our two awards, we were finalists in three other categories as well: Best Website, Best Blog, and Best Community Feature. (Those went to Vitamin Daily, Maclean’s, and Best Health, respectively.) It’s the lattermost nomination that deserves a special nod from us, though, since it was for our daily Photoist feature and the massive Torontoist Flickr group that makes it possible. For that category, we weren’t really the finalists: the four thousand photographers who share their shots with us and you by adding them to that group were. Torontoist really is the better for them—and, as ever, for you, our readers.
