Torontoist Goes to Washington to Help Restore Sanity and also Keep Fear Alive

Start putting together your ironic signs, because we’re going to Washington!
When we mentioned that we were thinking of going down to Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s duelling Washington, D.C. rallies, we weren’t sure what your response would be. But when it was clear that many of you were excited about making the trip down, we got to work—booked a bus, talked to insurance people and lawyers (who, it turns out, have some pretty strong opinions about taking a bunch of people across national borders on a bus to a giant public event), and even spoke to some sponsors to keep costs down.
Today, we’re happy to announce that it’s actually happening—and that our friends over at Eye Weekly are coming along for the ride.
We’ll leave from downtown Toronto on the evening of October 29, at around 8 p.m. We’ll arrive in D.C. the next morning, attend the rallies, have loads of fun, and leave Washington that evening. We’ll arrive back in Toronto on the morning of October 31, with time left to attend Halloween parties or be fresh for work Monday morning. (Exact pick-up and drop-off details are still being worked out.)
Cost: $50. That’s much cheaper than any other way down to the rallies from Toronto that we’ve seen.
We’ll start taking your reservations on Thursday, October 14, at 6 p.m. Details on that will appear on Torontoist earlier that day. (We’re still trying to figure out the best way to take your money.) Seating will be limited to the first fifty people who reserve and pay tomorrow, but if there is overwhelming interest, and some sponsors we’re still waiting to hear from come through, we may be able to offer a second or even a third bus.
