TIFF Review Roundup: Day Seven
Come one, come all, and gaze at the only film we’ve given zero stars to at this year’s TIFF: Bruce LaBruce’s hardcore porno zombie picture, L.A. Zombie (
). “Who keeps giving Bruce LaBruce money to make movies?” writes John Semley. “When will they stop?” But it’s not all bad today: Vincent Gallo’s Promises Written In Water (
) can be “brilliant”; Tsui Hark’s Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame (
) is “a good bit of fun”; and Ed Gass-Donnelly’s Small Town Murder Songs (
) “offers a particular breed of Canadiana,” which may or may not be a good thing. Get more TIFF 2010 reviews here.
