Scene: Taking the Canada Malting Company Down

WHERE: The former Canada Malting Company plant, alongside Lake Ontario at Eireann Quay.
WHEN: September 15, 9:30 a.m.
WHAT: As part of the City’s redevelopment plan for the site, the abandoned Canada Malting Co. germination and kiln buildings are demolished—buildings that are “completely unsafe,” the acting manager of Heritage Preservation Services told the Post. Explains photographer Tiffany J. Cuthbert, “The site had a number of photographers shooting the slow demolition, all moving around each other to get to higher ground. I loved that one man avoided all that by bringing his own ladder, had to get him in my shot.” The site’s demolition is not a total one: the eighty- and sixty-five-year-old silos aren’t going anywhere.
