At 2 p.m. on Friday, nominations formally closed for candidates hoping to become school board trustees, councillors, or Toronto’s next mayor. David Miller showed up with $200 in hand—the filing fee for those running for mayor—but it was all a “cruel joke.” Shawn Micallef tweeted his way towards City Hall, too, vowing to enter, but found himself stuck in gravy outside.
