A screenshot of Imagine Concert’s Facebook page as of 9:30 this morning.
In February, it was announced. In April, it started to get discouraging. In July, it got delayed. Earlier in August, it got depressing. Now, it looks like the Imagine Concert, which was to be the largest concert in Toronto history, might not be happening in 2010 at all.
Quietly, the description on the event’s Facebook page has been changed so that it now reads: “The festival has been postponed until next year.” The Facebook event listing itself has vanished.
And while so far, neither Imagine Concert’s news section of its site nor its Twitter are confirming, and an Imagine minion has gone rogue before, at least one artist in the announced lineup is speaking out. Larry “Rhino” Reinhardt, formerly of Iron Butterfly, took to his Facebook wall. There, on Monday afternoon, he wrote: “Hell people, the bad news is the show in Canada has been canceled, by those lyies [sic?] we all were told. Me and the Posse are sorry for this, but blame those in the north, We will Rise!!!!” According to Reinhardt, “Me and the posse were just getting on when the Canada people pulled the plug, the bastards, they lost every bands deposit, and no air tickets what a joke to play with our lives.”
Multiple messages to Imagine Concert’s team, including organizer David Kam, have yet to be returned.
Thanks to Chris Berube for the Rhino Reinhardt tip.
