Extra, Extra: McLaren Takes on Bryant, K’naan Takes a Minute, and Kuitenbrouwer Passes on a Condo
Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.
Toronto Life‘s September cover (though the copy we got has a black, not a white, background).
- Toronto Life‘s cover story this month is about Michael Bryant—and it’s by Leah McLaren. There’s a trailer for it. The Post gives a rundown, noting that McLaren won’t say if she spoke to Bryant or not for the story, and that “the cover photo…comes from a shoot Toronto Life did last year when Mr. Bryant quit as a provincial Cabinet minister to head up Invest Toronto.” You can’t read the piece online yet, but the most interesting tidbit we’ve gleaned from it is that Bryant apparently updated his own Wikipedia page before the tragedy. Arrest that man!
- “An early map of Toronto wards where the incumbent isn’t running again” in the upcoming municipal election, created by Patrick Cain. So far: nine of forty-four.
- One day after Peter Kuitenbrouwer of the Post gets offered a unit in a new condo building coming up on St. Nicholas Street—on a floor higher up than the city approved—the city officially prevents the condo from adding more storeys. Now where will Peter Kuitenbrouwer live?
- It’s not new, but the song’s a great one, for a Friday afternoon especially: K’naan’s “Take A Minute.”
- The sprites for the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World video game, made by Paul Robertson, are really neat.
- And from Dave Meslin, a “kite’s-eye view” of Trinity Bellwoods Park. And now it’s the weekend.
