Scene: Swiss Chalet Standoff
WHERE: Kipling Avenue and the Queensway.
WHEN: Friday, 7:40 p.m.
WHAT: A man surrenders to police and is arrested outside of a Swiss Chalet on the Queensway. Three and a half hours earlier, after finishing his meal, the man allegedly handed a note to a waitress that demanded other diners “leave quietly,” then locked himself inside the restaurant, loaded rifle in hand. There were no injuries—including none to the gunman, or to manager Kugathasan Sivanesan, who kept safe inside a locked office. The Star, Globe, and Sun have more.
