We want to give this dog one thousand National Magazine Awards. Photo from 2008’s Woofstock by Miles Storey/Torontoist.
This year’s National Magazine Awards were the first to feature categories for online content, and so the first time that Torontoist was a nominee. The awards were on Friday night, and we did pretty well, for humans.
Our coverage of last year’s Tamil protest on the Gardiner garnered Torontoist a silver prize for Best Cross-Platform Package, an honour which wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible work of our photographers Miles Storey, Nick Kozak, and Christopher Drost last May. Who won gold? Canadian Geographic‘s “Return of the Ferret.” And the winner of Website of the Year, the category in which we were finalists? DogsInCanada.com, the online arm of Dogs in Canada. They have a “puppy” section on their website. They have videos, too. Videos of puppies. We never stood a chance.
Congratulations to all of Friday’s winners, online and off.
