Things the G20 is Ruining Now
Last week, Torontoist explored how the G20 would affect everyone, from cyclists to tourists. In the days leading up to this weekend’s summit, we’re collecting the ways in which it’s ruining everything for everyone.
There are still four days left until the summit starts, so you know what that means—the G20’s ruined a bunch more stuff since yesterday. What, you ask?
- The Queen streetcar. In the G20’s official “Press Room” gallery—which contains shots that aim, as that b-roll did, to show off Toronto—the 501 Queen car is conspicuously rolling along King. This, we cannot stand.
- Food for those most in need of it. The Star reports that the Law Society of Upper Canada–organized “Lawyers Feed the Hungry” program, which provides two thousand meals for the poor each week, is shut down for the week.
- Pedestrian Sundays. Writes Shamez Amlani on Streets are for People’s blog: “the street closure permit for Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington Market has been denied. This doesn’t however mean that there won’t be any festivities that day. The market will also make a perfect milieu for those looking to take a break from the barricades, a place to regroup and rest while sharing insight with others.”
- School. Not just post-secondary ones: eight schools will shut on Thursday and Friday.
