Sound Tracks: “Stadium Love” by Metric
Believe it or not, music videos still exist. Sound Tracks trolls the internet to find the best and the worst of local artists’ new singles and the good, bad, or otherwise noteworthy visuals that accompany them.
Guess who! We didn’t have to troll too hard for this one; Metric is sort of huge so they can afford nice things like videos that have budgets and that people will see. Full of vicious animal fights and chases, “Stadium Love” is more National Geographic than “Island in the Sun” and credits three directors (plus the band) for the cutting of this stock footage. One of these directors, someone called Robby Starbuck (that’s not a real name! It can’t be.), is apparently “the new generation of warped tour fans [sic sic sic] director of choice for bringing a moving image to their favorite bands.” What?
As Metric inch their way closer to getting lots of actual stadium love and appear here as caged animals, being chased, being attacked, this, the hollowest of flattened-to-death multi-tracked pop choruses (the kind Garbage was so good at) rings a little louder: what does it all mean, man? YouTube commenter bloodxfuck waxes YouTube-comment philosophical for us: “Metric has a reason for everything they do, so I’m sure there is one for this. I enjoyed it…and the concept of us being caged like animals, and almost the animals reflecting todays society…Fun if your under the influence!” It all makes sense! Or…nah, we’re overthinking this—Weak Whisper probably has it right: “i wish i was that lion, i would love to be pet by emily haines ;)”
And if you don’t want to watch Emily Haines in a cage wearing feathers doing some pseudo-sexy vamping, maybe check out the new Miley Cyrus video. That happens there, too.
