NXNE Day Four: It Gets Hot. Literally.
Iggy Pop defies our cameras at Yonge Dundas Square, Saturday, June 19. Photo by Nancy Paiva/Torontoist.
Even at a too-balmy thirty-seven degrees with the humidity, outdoor festival goers were pleased not to see any of the forecasted rain for Saturday’s shows, two of the biggest of the festival—Iggy Pop and the Stooges at Yonge-Dundas Square, and the Broken Social Scene/Pavement show on the Island. Though not officially a part of NXNE, the latter show was one of the most anticipated in the city this summer (and of course they did decide to allow a bunch of festival wristbands and passes as tickets), and at least one of our rovers made his way over for it. Elsewhere, we stayed loyal to the awesome local D’Urbervilles, and struggled to see the writhing Iggy Pop while hearing him rip through “Search and Destroy”—our photographer Nancy Paiva, with more bruises than photos of the mania, says that up front, “People were vomiting and filled with panic.” Ah, well. Next time, Iggy.

More free stuff at Yonge-Dundas Square today and tonight! See you at De La Soul at 9 p.m.! Till next year, NXNE.
