Extra, Extra: G20 Security, “Reasons to Love Toronto,” and Sherbourne Commons
Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.
- Notes photographer BruceK, who took the photo above a few days ago and just added it to Torontoist’s Flickr pool: “Eleven days before the G20 summit in Toronto, heightened security is already evident in the CBC building. These uniformed officers appear to be guarding a flat-screen television in the Barbara Frum Atrium. Final score was Japan 1, Cameroon 0.” So long as there are no saplings around, we’ll be okay.
- Sherbourne Commons, the winner of Torontoist and Waterfront Toronto’s competition to pick a new name for Sherbourne Park, drew some jeers today (alongside some press). For a competition in the public’s hands to name a public park, it fits pretty well though, no?
- This morning, Toronto Life got their “50 Reasons to Love Toronto” feature, from their June print issue, online. Included: Regent Park’s transformation, zombies, Drake, this, etc.
- And the G20 was scary enough without protesters wearing giant fibreglass heads modelled after world leaders, thank you very much.
