Extra, Extra: Größte Stadts, Magritte, and a Fire Sale

Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

  • If you ever wanted to watch two Grade Nine boys rap in German about how great Toronto is (“Toronto ist die größte Stadt in Kanada / New York ist besser? Das ist Propaganda!”), today’s your day. Adam Artymowicz and Andrew Hay are entrants in a video contest—first prize is a trip to Germany—and the mom of one of the guys sent the video to us. (She admits her bias.) We like it, and we also like that their YouTube username is “TorontoIstDieBeste,” which we’re choosing to read as “Torontoist: Die Beste.”
  • Today’s National Post reminded us that road hockey is against the law on Toronto streets, and that that is pretty silly. (A largely unenforced municipal bylaw prohibits playing “any game or sport upon a roadway.”)
  • So OCAD’s now OCADU, which is also a little silly. But this joke almost makes it all worth it.
  • Luminato and the World Cup both start today, and we’re here to help: Torontoist’s World Cup guide tells you where in Toronto you want to be (or should avoid) for the next month, and our Luminato guide picks out some of the best of that fest. Check in this weekend for our NXNE primer.
  • Last we heard—it’s 4 p.m. on Friday as we type this—there are still a pretty good number of tickets left for tonight’s surprise Arcade Fire concert. Find out how to grab some for either tonight or Saturday night’s show here.
  • And can someone rationalize Rob Ford supporters’ beliefs with their apparent willingness to sticker indiscriminately on their candidate’s behalf? Please?
