books_badge_medium.gif We’ve always been in love with the idea of a literary salon. It’s incredibly romantic, really: an artfully chosen, eclectic mix of interesting characters, living it up over wine and witty conversation. The living room at the Hôtel de Rambouillet, Parisian cafés in the 1920s—these are such parties as dreams are made on.
Toronto’s got a new salon of sorts, and people gathered for its inaugural meeting just about a week ago. Started by Open Book: Toronto in conjunction with the Spoke Club and the soon-to-be-opened Thompson Hotel (which will alternate as venues), the Toronto Literary Salon aims to inject a bit of convivial energy into the traditional, some might say staid meeting of author and audience we call the book reading.
