  • Could the person behind William Lyon MacKenzie’s Twitter account, @rebelmayorinterviewed here in December—be @HimySyed? Global’s Jackson Proskow thinks he caught Syed making a revealing mistake today. But let’s just say we are not unfamiliar with Toronto’s first mayor, and we think that Syed’s not the one filling his pantaloons.
  • Today’s thing you should read if you haven’t yet: “The shop around the corner” by Laura Trethewey from last week’s Post, a look at ten neighbourhood stores, one for each of the last ten decades.
  • The Star‘s Joe Fiorito is one among many who really hate cartoonist Jason Kieffer‘s new book The Rabble of Downtown Toronto for its depictions of Toronto’s homeless. • Workopolis, which still exists, has a new logo.
  • Jane Siberry is giving away her discography online, in MP3s and “studio quality” AIFFs, including album artwork. “IT IS FREE, A GIFT FROM JANE. TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT. AND ‘PAY IT FORWARD’ TO OTHERS.”
  • The Star, meanwhile, has updated its “traffic death map,” showing fatalities on Toronto roads going back to January 2008.
