Extra, Extra: Miller, TEA, and Open Sesame
Torontoist closes out each weekday with a quick collection of just about everything we think you ought to care about (or ought not miss)—say hi to Extra, Extra.
- Collaborative local news thing OpenFile finally went live today at 5 a.m. Go, check it out, think deep thoughts about it—consider especially if it’s “one of the biggest media ventures in Canada since the launch of the National Post“—and then come back to Torontoist tomorrow for our take.
- David Miller dropped by The Dean Blundell Show on 102.1 the Edge this morning, to give what has to be one of the more interesting interviews the outgoing mayor has given in a while. Listen to it here—it’s the audio player beside the text reading: “Mayor Miller gives us an update of some of the things going on in the city. Joslyn James talked about her new movie, and Lesbian Lu talks about a make out session she had.” Talk about burying the lede!
- The Toronto Environmental Alliance has listed “6 priority actions, in no particular order, that will build on 10 years of environmental success”—a list of what Toronto’s big environmental priorities should be for this year’s municipal election, including stuff like “Achieve 70% Waste Diversion by 2012” and “Build Transit City & Fund It.” Fingers crossed.
- If TTC curmudgeon and kerning enthusiast Joe Clark and his research is to be believed, the TTC has overpaid for web development, to the extent that Clark suggests that the organization may have “a miniature MFP scandal on its hands.”
- …and as we write this, we’re also keeping a close watch on City Council’s debate over bike-sharing program BIXI. More on that to come, as well.
