Extra, Extra: Queen’s Park, Rebellion, and Retweets
Torontoist closes out each weekday with a quick collection of just about everything we think you ought to care about (or ought not miss)—say hi to Extra, Extra.
Rob Ford’s re-tweet this morning, captured by @Blopinski. Thanks to reader Asif Hossain for sending it along.
- The day after George Smitherman went after him over stupid comments about AIDS, Rob Ford re-tweeted this tweet saying that “Smitherman should spend less time attacking Ford for telling truth about AIDS, more time coming up with actual policies.” Oops! Ford’s team deleted the tweet, and Ford’s since told the Star that “The person that re-sent that is no longer on my social media team. I do not condone that.” Not now, at least.
- Police’re moving the G20 “Designated Protest Area” from Trinity-Bellwoods Park. To where? Well, we hear from Torontoist’s Michael Chrisman that Olivia Chow—Trinity-Spadina’s Member of Parliament—is making automated phone-calls to constituents saying that the new venue will be Queen’s Park, and that she and Joe Pantalone (mayoral candidate and councillor for Ward 19, Trinity-Spadina) helped make the switch happen.
- Hey, you know what song sounds a lot like Arcade Fire’s “Rebellion (Lies)”? Kelly Clarkson’s new song, “Naked Eye.” Scare your sons, scare your daughters (with the similarities between the two tracks).
- To prove a point about the importance of Transit City, David Miller tried to get from Malvern to York University this morning, tweeting along the way. It took almost two hours, though surely all the Twitpics slowed him down.
- Just announced: “A CONCERT TO SAVE THE CINEFORUM,” May 9, at Sneaky Dee’s. Reg Hartt’s Bathurst Street Cineforum is at risk of being altogether shuttered (and not for the first time) because of “a notice of violation from the city’s Licensing and Standards division.”
