Extra, Extra: Monsters, Obama, and Lower Bay
Torontoist closes out each weekday with a quick collection of just about everything we think you ought to care about (or ought not miss)—say hi to Extra, Extra.
- The video above is “Letters,” by Ryerson students Dan Busheikin and Anne Douris (both of whom also made “The Last Goodbye At Summerhill”). It’s made with “video, permanent markers, acrylic paint, lots of acetate,” and sadness.
- Don’t forget that throughout this long weekend, you’ll have a chance to glide through Lower Bay Station, as the non-lower Bay is closed, and Museum Station’ll serve as a makeshift transit routing hub for three days. Torontoist will have more from Lower Bay soon, and our special holiday edition of Urban Planner (which you can find here after 4 p.m. today, Friday) will help you figure out what else to do this weekend.
- A monster-looking thing found south of Hudson’s Bay is probably a muskrat or an opossum. But! The Star notes that “others speculate it may be the mythical Ogopogo, the Chupacabra or some other marine monster, like the Loch Ness Monster.” Hmm.
- Oh, David Miller, we will miss you when you’re gone. This morning, Miller—in Washington for a press conference about next month’s G20 conference—tweeted that he was “with the President of the United States of America,” accompanied by this photo.
- Astral Rejections, a new blog launched on Thursday, collects photos of broken Astral Media waste bins. You can submit your own finds here, and send golf claps in this direction.
- And just in time for your weekend exodus, the City launched a special website today “that shows ongoing and emergency road construction, existing travel conditions on City of Toronto roads, and special events taking place,” with the aim of “making it easier for motorists to find their way around city streets,” according to their press release. That site’s right here, slow-but-useful map and all.
