Extra, Extra: Shit, Shit, and Other Shit
Torontoist closes out each weekday with a quick collection of just about everything we think you ought to care about (or ought not miss)—say hi to Extra, Extra.
- It was potty time down at Queens Quay and Rees Street this afternoon, as the City launched its first pay toilet, which we wrote about earlier this month and will have more about tomorrow. While media outlets go pun-hunting, OpenFile’s asking if the high cost has meant money’s been flushed down the toilet, too.
- How many of our least favourite things can we fit into a sentence? Local gossip blogger Zack Taylor (1) is part of a $20 million
bidpublicity stunt (2), on the part of the owners of HotorNot.com (3), to buy Perez Hilton‘s blog (4). Boy, we’re pooped. - Hurt Locker producer Nicolas Chartier is no class act, either. He took the piss out of a Toronto Boing Boing reader intending to boycott Chartier’s company, Voltage Pictures, because of their sue-happy stance on downloading Voltage’s movies, in an email that included lines like “keep being stupid.”
- And congratulations to Woodhands, who got their wish to be on CP24 fulfilled during last night’s televised mayoral debate, after an unvetted tweet suggesting the band oughta be mayor landed on the channel’s ticker, the result of the station pulling in tweets tagged “#CP24mayor.” You’re the shit, Woodhands.

About the new pay toilet, this article originally said that OpenFile asked whether the “City flushed money down the toilet.” OpenFile has suggested the cans are expensive, but their article notes that the cost’s not the City’s.
