books_badge_medium.gif Toronto writer Matt Duggan is a high school English teacher who found time to write The Royal Woods, a novel for the pre-adolescent set about a brother and sister who go on a wacky journey into the unknown. On Wednesday night Duggan will celebrate the release of his decidedly adult debut novel, Cherry Electra, at the Dora Keogh Pub (141 Danforth Avenue, 7 p.m., FREE). Cherry Electra is the story of a charismatic loser looking back on a drug-fuelled weekend at the cottage that terribly wrong from the confines of a prison cell. [email protected] editor James Grainger spoke with Duggan about his crazy caper novel and the challenges of the writing life.
(Meanwhile, you can find today’s Blue Jay–themed version of The Optimisms Project here.)
