ArtStars* is the TMZ of the Toronto art scene, in the good way, making easily digestible videos about the not-so-easily-digestible. Torontoist brings you one new ArtStars* episode (more or less) every week—with the warning that we don’t necessarily approve of their bad behaviour.
Since we uploaded the first part of our AGO Massive Party sneak-in last week, someone from the gallery summoned ArtStars* for coffee on Tuesday afternoon and said, “I’m here to reprimand you.”
Sarah Thomson tweeted about it, staff pics of us at the party leaked into our inbox, and we heard Matthew Teitelbaum asked the PR peeps at the AGO to track us down after we found him in the Young gallery, moments before we snuck in. Apparently he said something along the lines of: “I was just mobbed by a nun with a microphone—go find her!” [ : The AGO maintains to Torontoist that Teitelbaum “never said what is claimed.”]
We have no doubt that the AGO will put us on their Most Wanted hit list after this second episode, but we brought the life to their party that night.
“Nobody cares about art and that’s the point of the AGO Massive Party,” we say from the heart of the dance floor, which was laden with glowing blue cocktails that look a lot like antifreeze—an art in itself.
Of Matthew Teitelbaum, this article originally said, “we found him in the Toronto Next gallery”; in fact, the name of the AGO gallery is the Young Gallery (and “Toronto Now,” not “Toronto Next,” is the name of an art series at the AGO). Additionally, in a caption in this video, mayoral candidate Sarah Thomson’s name is misspelled “Tomson.” Torontoist regrets the errors.
