LitBlog Spotlight: The Casual Optimist
Dan Wagstaff loves books. He better—he not only writes about them on his blog The Casual Optimist, he’s been working in the book business in some capacity for over a decade, first in a bookstore, then an independent publisher, and now at Raincoast Books, one of Canada’s leading book distribution companies. His blog does more than celebrate the words between covers and the authors that write them, though. The Casual Optimist looks at the book from all angles—as a designed art object, a commodity sold, distributed, and advertised in the marketplace, and, of course, as an object of adoration. James Grainger spoke with Dan about the site via email.
