Lights Off?

Toronto, along with hundreds of other cities across the globe, marked Earth Hour this past Saturday night. The well-intentioned though often controversial attempt to protest climate change didn’t fare quite as well this year as it did last: according to Toronto Hydro, this year our collective electricity consumption dropped by 10%, compared to 15.1% in 2009. (Whether this result was satisfactory or disappointing depends in part on which report you read.)
We have expressed our reservations about Earth Hour before, and reservations we have still. Commitment to environmental change ought to be a 365-day-a-year affair. We are always curious, however, to see how it is received by our fellow Torontonians, and so we bring you now the best photography—courtesy of our staff photographers and our trusty Flickr pool contributors—of Earth Hour 2010.
