On the Ground in Haiti: Monday
Haiti falls a few thousand kilometres outside of Torontoist’s usual scope, but when we heard from Torontoist photographer Nick Kozak, heard that he was trying to make his way to Port-au-Prince in the wake of the disastrous earthquake there—an earthquake that it’s expected has or will kill some 200,000—we waited for him to arrive safely and for his photos to make it back.
On Saturday afternoon, he flew to La Romana in the south of the Dominican Republic, and from there made his way west towards Haiti’s capital. The collection of photos above were taken on Monday, January 18. On that day, he tweeted that “Haiti is desperate. I would say that anyone who can should donate to known charities.” Here’s how you can from Toronto.
Torontoist will be featuring more of his photos from Haiti later this week, as they arrive; you can also follow him on Twitter @nickkozak and see even more shots in his Flickr stream.
