Get together and have a few laughs with Bruce and Die Hard, playing at the Fox Theatre tonight.

FILM: Though it was originally released in the summer of 1988, Die Hard remains the ultimate Christmas movie. Tonight, you can satisfy your need for a John McClane–themed holiday with a double bill of Die Hard and Die Hard 2 (Die Harder) at the Fox Theatre. Both films involve terrorists and hostages of some sort, big explosions, and, of course, a theme of togetherness and good will towards men—all the stuff a good Christmas film requires. Fox Theatre (2236 Queen Street East); 7 p.m. (Die Hard), 9:30 p.m. (Die Hard 2); $8 for members, $11 for non-members.
ART: Fifteen artists have created unique ceramic coffee mugs to be auctioned off at an event for Grounds for Health called One Less Paper Cup. The proceeds from the silent auction will go to helping women in coffee-growing regions of the world by providing cervical cancer education, screenings, and treatment. Some of the talented artists involved include Paul Butler, Jason McLean, and Courtney Wotherspoon. “Celebrity” barista Sam James will be serving complimentary lattes and coffee, while a cash bar is available for any other thirsts you might have. UNIT (1198 Queen Street West), 5 p.m., FREE.
WORDS: Penguin and Ben McNally Books are bringing together authors Adrienne Clarkson, Daniel Poliquin, and Mark Kingwell to discuss their recent books about Norman Bethune (Clarkson), René Lévesque (Poliquin), and Glenn Gould (Kingwell). The books are a part of Penguin Group’s Extraordinary Canadians series, which profiles a different Canadian historical figure in each book. Series editor John Ralston Saul will moderate, and refreshments will be served after the talk. Heleconian Hall (35 Hazelton Avenue), 7:30 p.m., $20.
WORDS: OCAD professor George Walker is offering a sneak peek at some of the artwork he’s created for A Is 4 Alice, an alphabet book in the theme of Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Walker is using twenty-six images from the over two hundred wood engravings he created for two limited editions of Carroll’s books previously published in 1988 and 1998. You will have the opportunity to see these images for the new alphabet book at Ben McNally’s Bookstore this afternoon. Ben McNally’s Bookstore (366 Bay Street), 5–7 p.m., FREE.
