Heroes and Villains 2009: Heroes Voting, Round One

Torontoist is ending the year by naming our Heroes and Villains—the very best and the very worst people, places, and things in and of Toronto over the past twelve months. We’ve unmasked our picks for Heroes and Villains; now, until the end of the year, your votes will whittle our lists down in a single elimination tournament to determine 2009’s Superhero and Supervillain.

Heroes and Villains voting time!
We mistakenly said that this would be a round-robin–style competition in our posts last week, but it’s way, way more exciting than that: it’s a single elimination tournament, with four rounds of Heroes, four rounds of Villains, and your votes deciding who proceeds to the next round and who disappears from contention. There’ll be a new round of voting every weekday for the next two weeks (excluding Christmas day), with Heroes and Villains rounds alternating days—this week and next, Heroes rounds start on Monday and Wednesday, and Villains on Tuesday and Thursday. If you check Torontoist every day until the new year (holidays are no excuse not to!), there’ll be a new vote to take part in.
Today’s our first round of Heroes voting—open until midnight on Tuesday, December 22—and all twenty-four of our choices are in the running. So, Toronto, call ’em like you see ’em:
