Elsewhere in the Ist-a-Verse
Torontoist is one of thirteen cities in the worldwide Gothamist network. Each Sunday, the editors of every site—from LAist to Londonist—choose their most interesting article, a list that is compiled into the network-wide feature Elsewhere In The Ist-a-Verse.
- Gothamist watched the State Senate reject gay marriage legislation supported by the Governor and State Assembly. The small silver lining was State Senator Diane Savino’s impassioned speech (above): “We have nothing to fear from love and commitment.”
- DCist was ecstatic to watch the D.C. Council make a historic, 11–2 vote in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage in the District of Columbia, but was heartbroken to learn that the National Zoo’s young panda, Tai Shan, will soon be deported to China.
- Londonist reported on a nude cyclist terrorizing the city, and urged readers to create their own tartans for London. Perhaps the latter could dress the former.
- Chicagoist discovered the fun one local politician, State Rep. John Fritchey, was having with his Facebook page and social media in general.
- Seattlest followed the manhunt that ensued after a convicted felon (who had been pardoned by 2012 presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee when Huckabee was governor of Arkansas) shot and killed four police officers.
- Shanghaiist tried to set Daniel Gross of Slate straight when he said he couldn’t find chocolate in China. Unfortunately, it seems their advice fell on deaf ears.
- Bostonist rounded up Christmas shopping options, which they hoped would include special mittens for polydactyl kittens.
- LAist heard it through the web-vine that a group of cyclists taking part in a Critical Mass ride were tackled and knocked off their bikes by two LAPD officers.
- SFist cheered when Google and Gov. Schwarzenegger unveiled a tool to help battle climate change, but jeered after reading a hit piece on pit bulls.
- Phillyist got a lesson on the inappropriate from author Daniel Nester.
