IFOA XXX: October 27
Every morning during the International Festival of Authors we’ll be previewing the day’s events and making our picks for the ones that seem most promising.

Anne Michaels reads from her latest work of fiction tonight. Illustration by Sasha Plotnikova/Torontoist.
Today’s Events
8 p.m. — Reading: Joseph Kanon, Anne Michaels, Ingo Schulze, Meaghan Strimas (Brigantine Room)
8 p.m. — Reading: Michael Connelly, Dani Couture, William Deverell, Denise Mina (Fleck Dance Theatre)
8 p.m. — Reading: Barry Callaghan, Jennica Harper, Lauren Kirshner, Valerio Massimo Manfredi (Studio Theatre)
Another classic line-up tonight: heavy on the fiction and poetry, with a mix of familiar and new names. Our choice for the evening is the reading featuring Barry Callaghan, who is making his only appearance at the festival tonight. (Michaels, though not listed elsewhere in the program, will be reading again on Saturday as part of the Giller Prize shortlist.) Callaghan is one of the great figures in Canadian letters, with a body of work that is rich and nuanced and in which we will be happy to lose ourselves tonight. Sometimes the classics are just what you want after all.
