IFOA XXX: October 26
Every morning during the International Festival of Authors we’ll be previewing the day’s events and making our picks for the ones that seem most promising.

And the winner is…? Illustration by Sasha Plotnikova/Torontoist.
Today’s Events
4:30 p.m. — Round Table: “Good Day at the Office?” (Studio Theatre)
8 p.m. — Reading: Governor General’s Literary Award Finalists (Fleck Dance Theatre)
If you yearn to join the glamourous, glittering world of book publishing, today is your lucky day. Some of the industry’s most successful veterans will gather on stage to discuss the ins and outs of making and selling books. Even better, the round table is free, so if you’re in the struggling, early stage of your professional development, you can still afford the price of admission.
Meanwhile, if the books themselves are your thing, tonight is one of IFOA’s banner events: the shortlisted authors for the Governor General’s Literary Award (fiction) will be reading from their nominated works. In a fittingly national show of force, two of the authors (Annabel Lyon and Michael Crummey) will be appearing via a live video link from the Ottawa International Writers Festival. Meanwhile, Miriam Toews will will read from Too Much Happiness in Alice Munro’s stead, as Munro herself is unable to attend. Prize readings are both fun, since they showcase some particularly good work, and helpful, giving you enough material to fake it when your friends/co-workers/boss/girlfriend’s mother asks what you think of this year’s roster.
