KIDS: BunnyEars.tv, a web-based TV station that broadcasts old children’s programs, is throwing a craft-ernoon at the Palmerston Branch Library Auditorium today. Part of the continuing WinterCity Festival, the event will feature cartoons and crafts, all suitable for children aged three and up. Did we mention there will be real live bunny rabbits hopping around? What better way to spice up your toddler’s Facebook page (you know, the one you made yourself) than a photo album dedicated entirely to photos of your baby with a fucking BUNNY? Seriously, how cute would that be? Palmerston Library Auditorium (560 Palmerston Avenue), 1–4 p.m., FREE.
PETS: A reminder that there is an open house and fundraiser today at My Dog’s Daycare & Boutique on Roncesvalles. The day will raise funds for the Humane Society of Durham Region, which tragically lost more than one hundred and fifty animals during a December fire. The event will feature mini-workshops on pets, some doggy treats and refreshments, and a free reading for your pup from dog “intuitive” Iris Green. Can’t make it but want to help out? Donate from home at the Durham Shelter’s online wishlist. My Dog’s Daycare (111 Roncesvalles Avenue), 1–4 p.m., FREE (with PWYC donation to the Humane Society).
FILM: Author/critic Kevin Courrier is launching a bi-weekly film lecture series at the Revue Cinema. “Produced and Abandoned: The Best Films You’ve Never Seen” will take place on the first and third Saturday mornings of the month until the end of May (in case you don’t read this until after 10:30 a.m., which is when today’s presentation starts). The series will spotlight neglected and unpromoted films from the late 1970s. Students! What better way to spend your Saturday morning than by going to a lecture? Revue Cinema (400 Roncesvalles Avenue), 10:30 a.m., $6.50.
WORDS: There is a Black History Month conference at the North York Central Library this afternoon (an event co-sponsored by Youth-Assisting-Youth). Speakers include Up from the Roots‘ Dwayne Morgan and Canada’s Next Top Model‘s Stacey McKenzie, and there will be a guest performance from the Black Ice Step Team. North York Central Library Auditorium (5120 Yonge Street), 1–5 p.m. (registration starts at 12:30 p.m.), FREE.
ART: This afternoon at Art Metropole, join artist Michael Dudeck (full artist alias: Michael Dudeck Witch Doctor) for the launch of his new book, Parthenogenesis. The softcover book will explore the words of thirty thinkers, as reflected on by the humble Witch Doctor himself. Parthenogenesis attempts to put on paper the attitudes conveyed in Dudeck’s current installation at the Pari Nadimi Gallery, coincidentally also titled Parthenogensis. Michael Dudeck Witch Doctor is a multimedia artist and shaman who studies the complicated relationship between humans and nature. He is also a teaching assistant at the University of Manitoba. If you go to this launch, you could totally maybe meet him. Art Metropole (788 King Street West), 1–3 p.m., FREE.
