DANCE: Improv Everywhere enthusiasts and ex-ravers unite! Improv In Toronto is throwing their second annual Subway Dance Party. Participants are told to bring their own music and headphones, meet in Queen’s Park at 3 p.m., and proceed to get on the subway one by one until the train unites in an epic but silent dance party. If you’re interested in participating, check the Improv in Toronto site for further instructions. The statue in the middle of Queen’s Park, 3 p.m., FREE.
BENEFIT: The Pedigree Foundation is holding a skating fundraiser this evening at Oshawa’s Legends Centre in an ongoing effort to support the Humane Society of Durham Region, where a December fire killed over one hundred and fifty animals. In lieu of admission fees to the arena, attendees are asked to make a donation to the shelter. Did we mention that self-proclaimed dog enthusiast Kurt Browning (who also sometimes figure skates) will be performing at the start of the night? This is your chance to give him that fan letter you’ve been neglecting to send, and support puppies while you’re at it! Legends Centre (1661 Harmony Road North, Oshawa) 6:30–9 p.m., PWYC.
KIDS: A few kid related events for the family-conscious Torontoist reader. First, Pages is presenting another installment of This Is Not A Reading Series For Tots at the Gladstone Hotel. “Kids Can Imagine It Day” will celebrate both the launch of author Andrew Larsen’s new book, The Imaginary Garden (illustrated by Irene Luxbacher), and the release of Barbara Todd and Patricia Storm’s new book, Edward and the Eureka Lucky Wish Company (1214 Queen Street West, 9:30 a.m., $5 for adults and free for tots). As well, the Gas Station Islanders (winners of the 2008 Exclaim! Cup) are throwing a family skate and raffle this afternoon at Wallace Emerson Park. The PWYC event will raise funds for Right To Play International, and will feature from all-kid-band I Eat Kids, as well as The Violet Archers (1260 Dufferin Street, 1:30–5 p.m., PWYC).
