Urban Planner: January 9, 2009
ART: Xpace, an artist-run gallery, launches its 2009 season with “Mis[place]d: Animals Lost and Found.” The exhibition, curated by Elizabeth Underhill, features new and recent work from sixteen different local artists and examines our relationships with our furry friends (on until January 31). The opening reception happens tonight, with an artist talk scheduled for January 21. Xpace (58 Ossington Avenue), 7–10 p.m., FREE.
THEATRE: Buddies in Bad Times Theatre aims to warm your cockles with Andrew Harwood’s Revue of Talent and Beauty. The Revue is a steaming hot collection of drag shows, performance art, singing, dancing, and more. The show stars Cristabel, Gartina, and Sharon Mirrors, with special guests Miss Margot, Tammy Ponds, David Kraft, Paulette Phillips, and Crackpuppy. Buddies in Bad Times Theatre (12 Alexander Street), 10:30 p.m., $7.
FILM: Students Against Climate Change present a free screening of Out of Balance: ExxonMobil’s Impact on Climate Change. The film looks at ExxonMobil’s role in causing global climate change—and its role in denying that climate change is occurring. There will be a discussion after the film about Exxon’s presence at the University of Toronto and about how students can influence U of T’s policies. Hart House (7 Hart House Circle), 7 p.m., FREE.
COMEDY: Bad Dog Theatre launches Globehead 2009 tonight, its sixth annual city-wide improv tournament. The tournament pits improv teams against each other every Friday and Saturday night between now and the death-match finale at the end of the month (January 31). Tonight sees face-offs between The Republicans and Full Frontal Lobes and between Sensei Sensibility and 3 Dudes from the Future. Bad Dog Theatre (138 Danforth Avenue), 8–10 p.m.
MUSIC: The Rock N Roll Wedding missed its fourth anniversary, so to make up for it this year there is a double-anniversary of wood and flowers. Playing the Fifth Rock n Roll Wedding Anniversary are Chris Eaton, Wax Mannequin, Mantler, and Gravity Wave. It is an anniversary, so semi-formal dress is expected. Tranzac Main Hall (292 Brunswick Avenue), 8 p.m., $5.
