ART: Tonight at Gallery 1313, fourteen designers’ and artists’ work will hit the runway in a fundraiser for the artist-run gallery. The show will also feature artist-designed t-shirts by talented Canadian artists like Michael DeForge and Daniel Erban. Funds raised will go towards ensuring Gallery 1313’s ongoing programming and operations, since it’s a not-for-profit organization. Gallery 1313 (1313 Queen Street West), 8–10 p.m., $15.
FILM: Tracey Fragments director Bruce McDonald is holding a fundraiser this evening for his new film, A Love Supreme. The film is a boy-meets-girl story complemented by a soundtrack of John Coltrane‘s hits (…as performed by contemporary artists). The gala will feature performances from Shaun Boothe, Rick Brown, and Infinite, not to mention Saidah Baba Talibah. McDonald will also screen some already-shot footage from A Love Supreme. Yippee, and it’s only $50 to attend! The Trane Studio (964 Bathurst Street), 8 p.m., $50.
FOOD: You can get Nadia G‘s hilarious new cookbook The Bitchin’ Kitchen Cookbook signed by the author herself [who we just interviewed!] today at the Eaton Centre Indigo! The book combines comedy with easy recipes, for an experience both clever and delicious. Indigo (220 Yonge Street, inside the Eaton Centre), 7 p.m., FREE.
WORDS: British funnyman Laurence Shorter will celebrate the release of The Optimist: One Man’s Search For The Brighter Side Of Life tonight at the Gladstone Hotel. The book chronicles Shorter’s quest to locate positive thinkers of our time, through interviews with folks like Bill Clinton and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Shorter will appear in discussion with journalist/novelist Patricia Pearson. Part of PagesThis Is Not A Reading Series. The Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen Street West, in the second floor gallery), 7 p.m., $5 (includes a $5 book rebate).
