ART: Steam Whistle Brewing is exhibiting the work of photographers who have shot performances at the brewery’s Steam Whistle Unsigned concert series. MUSIC: Sound-makers Huckleberry Friends and Tropics are playing together tonight to raise funds for their respective upcoming recordings. Supporting their efforts—by sharing the bill with them—are Wyrd Visions and The Pauls. Sneaky Dee’s (431 College Street), 9 p.m., $5.
LECTURE: As Torontoist mentioned yesterday, Severn Cullis-Suzuki will be speaking at Upper Canada College this evening as part of the school’s interesting next-generation-ish lecture series. Another famous offspring, Sacha Trudeau, will be speaking at the school April 2. Upper Canada College Student Centre (200 Lonsdale Road), 7 p.m., $30.
FILM: This month’s Doc Soup offering is a Finnish film called Recipes for Disaster. The film follows the director’s suburban family who, over the course of a year, attempt to eliminate all traces of fossil fuel–based substances from their lives. Note the title of the film if you are wondering how they fare. The Bloor Cinema is giving away a limited number of tickets for the 9:15 p.m. screening to students with proper ID, starting at 5:30 p.m., on a first-come first-served basis. WORDS: Poet Kyle Buckley, novelist Jessica Westhead, and poet Rocco De Giacomo read tonight for the Pivot Reading at the Press Club series, which happens every second Wednesday at the Press Club. You might recognize Kyle Buckley from Type Books. His first book, The Laundromat Essay—an epic poem—was published this fall by Coach House Books.
