Fox Gets Effed!

Fucked Up being celebrated on Fox News? Does not compute.
Late last week, Damian Abraham, singer and face-smasher (his own, of course) of Toronto’s most dysfunctional punk band, announced on his blog that he and his band had been featured on self-professed “fair and balanced” (but in real life notoriously far right) US network Fox News as part of a year-end best of 2008 segment on the program Red Eye. The show, airing Monday to Friday at the obscure hour of 3 a.m. EST, covers a “variety of topics, including news, entertainment, sports, and gossip,” and is hosted by former men’s magazine editor/staff writer and big-time blogger, Greg Gutfeld. As promised in the original post, the proof of Abraham’s personal appearance (Fucked Up were in Philadelphia last Wednesday, January 21, and Abraham gladly went into a studio to record, via satellite, an interview with Gutfeld) made its way online Monday night. The sound of Toronto’s music community’s collective jaw hitting the floor echoed shortly thereafter.
Rife with outdoor-voices and absolutely cringe-worthy rim-shot type jokes, Gutfeld beams on the show with a mischievous glee over repeating the name Fucked Up on television, while Women’s Studies major Abraham tries to make nice with Anne Coulter. In the name of delicious irony, it is worth mentioning that Abraham started his blog less than a week ago to be the “CNN to [bandmate Mike]’s Fox.” Summing up what probably almost everyone who even peripherally follows the band is thinking, in the interview, Abraham marvels, “if you’d asked me last year the last place I ever thought we would probably be, Fox News would probably be number one.” Yeah. Pretty much.
