Dolla Dolla Bills Y’all

A Toronto company recently landed themselves a spot on death row―Death Row Records, that is. The Star reported yesterday that three-year-old label WIDEawake Entertainment Group beat out the likes of Warner Music Group and Conquest Media Group to take over Death Row’s killer catalogue for $18 million bones (U.S.). This gives them rights to all the sounds that spawned the 90s west coast gangster rap movement―the back catalogues of Snoop Doggy Dog, Dr. Dre, and 2Pac lay in their hands. That’s quite the handful for a company who has managed just one artist until now. Death Row Records collapsed a few years ago when their head honchos took on new projects (Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog have their own labels). This is the third bid to get Death Row off economic death row―U.S. bankruptcy court.
