Bloggy Can You Hear Me?
For the third time in four years, Torontoist is a finalist for Best Canadian Blog in the Weblog Awards (also known as the Bloggies). Hooray! To shamelessly steal from our 2007 article, “The Weblog Awards….are—to borrow a quotation from Ron Burgundy—kind of a big deal. In the blog world, they are our Oscars, except that instead of a brilliant gold statuette, eternal fame, and hot dates for the rest of your life, the prize is, well…uh…online bragging rights. But bragging rights are bragging rights, dammit.” And this year, if we win, we also get a certificate!
We’re up against four other nominees, all of them one-woman operations with far more spectacular names and confusing mandates than ours: there’s Everybody Likes Sandwiches, a food blog that is, conspicuously, not only about sandwiches; Cheaty Monkey, “a place where,” the author says, “I write anything and everything” including “what I’m up to with the Monkeys,” and which may thus be written by either Jane Goodall or Micky Dolenz; Attack of the Redneck Mommy, which is taking us an awful long time to figure out; and Whiskey In My Sippy Cup, whose author recently admitted to not even being Canadian (!!!).
We encourage you to check out all the other nominees in all the other categories. You can vote for whoever you’d like, in every category, until next Monday, February 2 at 10 p.m., unless you are voting for a blog other than Torontoist in the “Best Canadian Blog” category, in which case voting for that category begins next Monday, February 2 at 10:01 p.m.
